Here are some SEO Tips written by John Alexander.
1.When performing SEO - Focus on writing for the human reader first
and search engines second. While search engine optimization is
important to your visibility, try writing your content first.
Most people don't write their best content when trying to optimize
AND create content at the same time.
Yet we continually see people trying to do this. We teach our
students in class, to spend time wisely creating useful content
that will be a genuine benefit to their visitors. Once you have
written something of genuine value that stands on its own merit,
you can go back over the article as a second step and apply some
mild optimization. This is much easier than trying to optimize
while creating your content at the same time.
Following this simple rule of taking it in 2 phases will help you
enormously. Okay now let's get back to giving you some more real
SEO tips to help you gain those rankings.
2.Are your links visible to a search engine spider?
A lot of Content and Links displayed on a webpage may not actually
be visible to the Search Engines, eg. Flash based content,
content generated through javascript, content displayed as
images etc.
Try this tool which Simulates a Search Engine by displaying the
contents of a webpage exactly how a Search Engine would see it.

Although some search engines can parse Java script right now, there
are none that can really read it and make sense of it. By reducing
the use of Java script on your page it will allow your content to
move higher on the page where the search engine robots can crawl it
easier.
BONUS TIP:
Here is a free tool allows you to determine the percentage of
similarity between any two pages online.

The one place where some duplication is permitted, is when you
work with genuine news stories. Real world news is 100% white hat
and search engines understand that some content like news - is
meant to be syndicated across the Web.
3.One quick and easy way to see how you are using your keyword phrase
"visually" at a glance, is to enter your main keyword phrase into
Google's tool bar and turn on the "highlighter" option.
This highlights every instance of your phrase as it is being used
on the page. You can glance at it briefly and visually spot where ever
you may be over-using any keyword.
If you are over doing it...be sure to consider swapping out some
synonyms. Your next SEO tip will arrive in a flash.
4.Use Wordtracker to spot new keyword topics that relate to your
industry. Observing higher KEI values will help you find phrases
that are busy yet not too competitive. These phrases can often be
ranked easily with only mild and very basic optimization.
Watch for keyword phrases that tell a story about the searchers
reasons for searching. Watch for them and you'll spot them.

5.When you are thinking about what type of content to write for new
promotional strategies, always remember that the traffic is not the
whole solution.
You must also convert your visitors to buyers. Always watch for ways
to work with "emotional content" since most people make their
"buying decisions" when they are in an emotional state.
Your promotions need to make the visitor FEEL good. Consider at times
where the use of humour might be incorporated or perhaps the warm fuzzy
feelings produced by the tone of your writing. This is a secret that
traditional advertisers have been using for years successfully.
6.What kind of shape is your Sitemap in?
Put links to new pages on your site map. Make sure you link to your
site map from every page of your Web site.If there's a corresponding
page on your site that you can use to link to the new page, do so.
Mention the new page on your blog. Do you have a directory
associated with the particular topic dealing with the content
of this new page? Add a link on that page.
Just make sure that you give the search engines multiple ways
to find all of your most important pages and never assume that
a search engine robot will always find you through your home
page.
7.Create content that has a solid, well written "call to action."
Clearly describe what you want your visitor to do next.
Do not assume that anyone will "know" what to do. You must tell them
"exactly" what you want them to do in clear, concise, descriptive
dialog.
8.Question: Is it true using hyphens in between your keywords more effective than
using underscores when naming a Web page?
Example: Is antique-furniture.html more readable by search engines than
for instance antique_furniture.html?

9.Here's a great Web site with a lot of cool SEO tools, such as
a Similar Page Checker (do NOT use duplicate content); Backlink Anchor
Text Analysis (link reputation is one of those "off-page" factors
that are so important, particularly with Google); and a Search
Engine Spider Simulator (how does your page look to a SE spider?).

10.Write customer focused content that appeals to your audience.
Remember that your Web site should be focused on your audience first and
appeal specifically to a niche interest. When writing your Web copy, you
need to dialogue in an appropriate tone and format for the right audience.
Some of the most interesting content will have more appeal if it speaks to
your audience in terms like: you can, you might, you will, yours, your and
you're INSTEAD of we, ours, we're, we will, we can, etc.
This is extremely important when working on sales related copy.
